Tinos Hiking Along Tradition & Culture
Are you ready to explore one of the most elegant Cycladic islands with rich cultural heritage and lush nature, on foot? Hike to the interior of this aristocratic island and discover the hidden beauties of Tinos. Follow its marvelous old hiking paths and hidden trails and get familiar with its authentic villages, mesmerizing museums, small chapels, skillfully decorated dovecot towers (ie. “Peristeriones”) and interesting nature. Tinos interior beauty is impossible to leave you untouched and the experience is suitable for everyone, as you go through the most picturesque villages of Tinos’ inland area.
Starting from Tarampados village, known for the impressive “Dovecotes Valley”, we will admire some of the best examples of dovecotes found on the island from a distance while crossing the village. We will continue towards Kampos village, where the Honey Festival takes place in the summer and you can visit the ‘Kostas Tsoklis’ Museum of Modern Art.
After crossing one of the most beautiful, cobbled streets of the island and passing through a lush valley, we will head to the village of Loutra. There, we have the opportunity to visit the Ursulines Monastery, which used to host a girls’ boarding school, renowned across Europe. It now functions as a museum that houses an interesting folk life exhibition and can be visited only during the summer months.
We continue downhill, parallel to a lush dell, crossing the ruins of the medieval village Lazaros, until we reach Perastra village, a small village, with just a few locals, full of vegetation, built along the stream that flows through it.
The route ends at one of the largest villages on the island, Komi, located near the agricultural area called Livadi, where the famous Tinian artichoke is grown – every year in springtime, this is where the Artichoke festival is held.
