Hike Along Santorini’s Caldera
Join an unforgettable guided walking adventure through Santorini’s most impressive path, right on the rim of the famous volcanic Caldera. Follow the footsteps of ancient merchants, farmers, and sailors, and experience a once-in-a-lifetime adventure and breathtaking views.
This path takes you along the edge of the volcano that inspired the myth of Atlantis. Your guide will take you through traditional whitewashed settlements along the only inhabited Caldera in the world, where you will discover blue-domed churches, stroll through cobblestone paths, marvel at vineyards and learn about local customs and myths.
This is a challenging hike at approximately 10km length, starting from Fira, the vibrant heart of Santorini, where we will explore the charming cobblestone streets and iconic blue domed churches. As we make our way to Firostefani, we will discover lots of hidden gems – Firostefani, being a quaint village perched on the cliff of the Caldera, offers stunning views of the azure sea. There you will marvel at the traditional Cycladic architecture and the quaint chapels.
Next, we will make our way to Imerovigli, which is known as the Balcony of the Aegean, where you will be able to capture picture-perfect panoramas and glance at the remains of an ancient settlement at Skaros rock. Finally, we will reach the outskirts of Oia, where you will indulge in a traditional Greek “meze” style lunch at a traditional Greek tavern, to enjoy a great finish of this athletic adventure.
Due to the path conditions, elevation gains/losses and volcanic terrain, the full Caldera hike from Fira to Oia is only suitable for advanced hikers who are fit, however if you wish to see a part of the Caldera route the itinerary can be adjusted to visit its easier parts, making it enjoyable for everyone, even the guests who would only prefer to walk downhill.
This tour is private for small groups of 1 – 8 persons and is offered in English and
Greek language. For larger private groups (up to 25 persons) prices are available on request.
Children and infants are welcome to participate with parental guidance.
