Tinos Travel Back in Time Tour
Immerse yourself in the artistic and historical wonders of Tinos as we take you on a journey back in time. Starting from Chora, we will visit the Archaeological Museum of Tinos to admire its collection of archaeological discoveries. Next, we continue to visit the ancient sanctuary of Poseidon and Amphitrite in Kionia, which means “marble columns,” as the sanctuary had a large passage (stoa) with approximately one hundred marble columns, which is what the village was named after.
We will continue inland, visiting the Venetian palace of Exomvourgo, which back in the day was the strongest castle of the Aegean Sea, built to protect the island in the Middle Ages. Finally, trace the island’s sculptural legacy while we visit Pyrgos, the largest village of Tinos, and the birthplace of many famous marble craftsmen, such as Giannoulis Halepas whose lifework and creations are remarkable. The village has a marble tradition and an impressive modern Marble Museum. We will take a break in the village’s main square for coffee or dessert, before we return back to Chora to end this tour, via another route, to see a different part of the island.
This tour is private for small groups of 1-9 persons and is offered in English language.
Children and infants are welcome to participate with parental guidance.
